In early 2018, GE came to commercial photographers Casey Templeton and Brett Lemon with a challenge: over the course of eight professional development programs, film more than 700 GE leaders delivering a message about what they’ve learned – and turn each video around within 12 hours so these students can share them with their teams before they get back to work on Monday.
Watch the video to see how Casey and Brett took on this seemingly impossible task, and wowed their clients at GE with a lightning-fast video workflow.
Behind the Scenes with the Storytellers
“The speed factor comes with the organization,” says Brett.
Brett started editing the videos during the shoots, and put in hours of work beforehand to make sure everything would run like clockwork.
“We’ve seen a lot of photographers, a lot of companies, a lot of people have files come in so fast they don’t know what to do with them,” says Brett. “These are coming in every two minutes, every three minutes, so if you don’t have the structure in place of the flow and the workflow, you are going to get lost.”
To build a flawless workflow, Casey and Brett needed to make sure they had reliable tools that would work well together.
They shot the videos in 4K on the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro, and ingested the videos immediately.
Brett edited the videos with Adobe Premiere Pro, which enabled him to export files in batch and do a lot of work at once.
Then, he uploaded the final products to PhotoShelter, which allowed Casey to distribute the videos to GE leaders from all around the world quickly and securely.
“When it came time to make a decision on what platform to use, I really didn’t have a decision to make,” says Casey. “[PhotoShelter] just really chose us for this.”
Once the videos landed in the inboxes of all of the participants, they could share them with their teams – even before they got back to the office.
“The fact that they can come home after being gone for two weeks from their team and they can lead with this video showing what they’ve done over the past two weeks allows them to step right back into the flow of work and be able to pick up where they left off,” says Casey. “So the fact that we can get everything done so quickly allows us to really hit a home run for our clients.”
