Content Marketing Myths That Businesses Need to Stop Believing

Forbes
By Mike Templeman

This read is a great reminder to slow down when you’re starting out in content marketing. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, but remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Your stellar content marketing plan will take time and testing.

Sometimes content marketing is trial and error. If you think you’re going to master the field your first time up to bat, think again. Mike Templeman’s article in Forbes this week is a great reality check. It’s loaded with tips and strategies on how to slow down and make the most of your first year of content marketing.

“I don’t want to burst anyones bubble, but coming into content marketing with no experience and setting the expectation of creating “amazing” content is a bit of a stretch. That’s not to say that your business shouldn’t strive to create strong content, as that is what will ultimately drive your returns. However, you must know that creating great content is a process.”

Templeman shares another great tip that I wrote down in my own notebook. He says, “spend just as much time promoting new content as creating it.” It’s a great rule to follow so you can get more mileage out of every piece of content you produce.

“About 10 years ago, a company could blog about anything and get an SEO boost; today, with increased competition between the many blogs out there—and thanks to Google’s ever-evolving algorithms such as Google Panda, RankBrain, and Hummingbird—you need to cut through the clutter with quality content to rank high in Google searches.”
