The PhotoShelter for Brands Creative Slack Community is now made up of over 1,600 photographers, brand marketers, designers, and industry experts. It’s our go-to hub for stimulating conversation and hosting live Q&As during our virtual webinars and summits.

During this year’s PhotoShelter Summit, we also gave back to the members of our Slack community who share insights and advice time and time again. We shared fun polls (with prizes attached!) that helped us get to know the event attendees and we gave back by rewarding poll participants with awesome prizes like gift cards and brand swag.

One question that left our community feeling inspired and the PhotoShelter team beaming for the next few weeks is one that’s quite introspective and stands the test of time:

What’s one piece of advice you would give to your younger self?

The responses and reactions we received are incredibly moving, and now we want to spread the inspiration.

Read through the list of responses below and then share your own! Tag us on Twitter (@psforbrands) and let us know what your go-to piece of advice would be.

“Your wildest dreams ARE achievable. Don’t stop pursuing your passion.” – Ashley M.

“Never lose touch with your network. Stay connected with the people who mattered to you at all ages, personal and professional. You get what you give.” – Scott F.

“Take a chance and simply do it. Be brave. Find lots of people to support you e.g. marketing, selling, accounts and leave the photography to you. Budget for them will save you time and money in the long run.

Also think outside the box and don’t follow the normal. Be different, it works and sometimes it is as simple as asking a question or offering something to a client that makes them take a second look at you.” – Michael C.

“The best advice I could give my younger self, if I could go back in time, is to invest and invest heavily and diversely. Stock market, real estate, self, etc. Diversify. Don’t be afraid of taking risks, it will pay off over time. Pursue your dreams, find the path to become what you aspire to be.” – Terry T.

“Trust your instincts.” – Theresa M.

“Ask ‘Why not me?’” – CJ C.

“Worry more about gaining experience rather than getting paid (As a student that is).” – Darren M.

“It’s okay if your career path goes down different avenues.” – Shelley B.

“Advice I would give my younger self is to be okay with making mistakes for the purpose of learning.” – Lauren S.
